Review Summary
based on 20 ratings. 20 user reviews.
New for 2012!! The original B3 Gear was determined to be too hot when composite bats were tested for legality in Little League baseball. COMbat couldn't just let its popular new bat fall by the wayside, so they went back to the drawing board. What they figured out was that they could retrofit the original B3 Gear to make it not only legal, but able to perform at the HIGHEST possible level allowed in youth baseball! The B3 Gear Retro features a one-piece design that combines Blended Fiber and Anisotropic Composite Technologies to create the most durable bats ever produced by COMbat. This complex weave of fibers is carefully tuned to give players an incredible feel on contact and the perfect design for hitting the long ball! Gear Technology is added to give the B3 Gear Retro a Super Sweetspot Size! This extends the sweetspot to a point where it is literally unmatched in the industry! Variable Stiffness Technology allows certain parts of the bat to be more stiff, enhancing the sweetspot to create a trampoline effect that will send balls WAY out of the park! The B3 Gear Retro has the same great feel of the B1, B2 and B3 but is legal for play in Little League, Babe Ruth, Dixie, Pony and USSSA! COMbat: For Players, By Players! The B3 Gear Retro is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Pros: Great bat, son has a B1,B2, and Omen. B3 retro is better than the Omen and as good as the other Combats ! Plenty of pop ! Great job Combat !
Cons: Should have been available sooner in the season.
by Shiparino - Jun 02, 2011
Pros: So far, so good. My son has used the bat for several practices and his first playoff game. Two RBIs off two hits. He likes it, but misses the old B1/B2 days. Will write more as the playoff and All Star season progresses.
Cons: None so far

Pros: best bat in the world. the bat is little league approved . dont get the combat b3 gear because it is elegal and they willl throw it out of the game. so get the combat b3 gear retro now!
Cons: best bat in the WORLD
by SNY03 - May 07, 2012
Pros: Can tell the difference in the ball jumping off the bat from the first swing. My son went from swinging an Easton to the B3 retro. Had a couple of friends tell me to try this and I don't regret it. I look at most of these reviews as a little shady cause evidently all of these bats are the greatest thing ever from the reviews. This one is legit.
Cons: Clear coat cracking...really just a sign of breaking in
by - Aug 25, 2011
Pros: great pop right out of the box.both my boys have enjoyed swinging the bat and the balls are flying.
Cons: wish the boys would have had the entire little league season to use. bats paint does seem to chip easily
by BUBBA'S DAD - Mar 23, 2012
Pros: My 11yo son hit a 185ft double tonite at his 1st at bat with this bat. Line drive that just rocketed off the bat. The bat is not broken in yet. We give it a 5!
Cons: Read that you can't keep composite bats in cold weather? Any truth to this?
by BROBB - Apr 20, 2012

Is it better that the 2012 Voodoo?
Asked by Aiden on Mar 20, 2012
Both are good bats, but designed very differently. If you would prefer a stiffer bat, the B3 would be a better choice. Since the Vooodoo is a two piece bat, it will provide more flex.

How do you break in this bat?
Asked by Rano on Feb 16, 2012
I would suggest taking about 150-200 hits off a tee or soft toss, starting out at about 40% power and gradually increasing your speed the closer you get to the 150 swing mark. Also, make sure you are using the same balls you would be hitting in a game and rotating the bat about a quarter of an inch in between hits to ensure an even break in all around the barrel of the bat.

I've read alot of conflicting reports if this bat is legal for 2012? It does not have the USSSA stamp but it does have 1.15 BPF on the barrell. So, is it good or not? I have to worry because we got it last fall for $250 and now its $150.

This bat does not feature the USSSA stamp, therefor it will not be legal for USSSA play.
