Ask QuestionMy son is 9 years old, 96 lbs and 4'9" tall. I like him to have a decent bat speed and am concerned that a 30-19 is too large. He uses a regular barrel bat that is 29-17. Advice?
Asked by David on May 13, 2012
As a general rule of thumb, you want to move up an ounce or two in weight every time a new bat is purchased. I think a 30" 19oz model would be well suited for him. Based on his height and weight, a 30 inch bat is recommended with a weight between 17 and 20 ounces.

My son is 9 yrs old, 54" tall, and weighs 63 lbs. What size bat do you recommend for him?
Asked by Jason on May 09, 2012
Based on his height and weight, a 29 inch model would be recommend.

I thought composite bats in Babe Ruth had to be BBCOR .50? Is this bat approved for Babe Ruth?
Asked by joe on Apr 23, 2012
Youth composite bats are still legal in the Cal Ripken Division. Only in the 13-15 year old age division do you have to use a BBCOR bat if it has a composite hitting surface.

Will hitting live pitching effect breaking this bat in. We are rotating the bat after every hit 1/4 turn.
Asked by T.Bone on Apr 05, 2012
Before hitting in live pitching we recommend to hit off a tee or soft toss to properly break in a composite bat. We also recommend not to hit yellow dimpled balls that are used in some batting cages

What is the best way to break in a composite bat?
Asked by Niner's mom on Apr 03, 2012
We recommend to take 100-200 swings off a tee or soft toss. Rotate the barrel about a 1/4 of an inch every swing. We also recommend not to use composite bats in batting cages that use yellow dimpled balls.

Does this bat meet the USSSA 1.15 bpf requirement? If so, why doesn't it have the new stamp on the lower barrel?
Asked by Brandon on Apr 02, 2012
This bat does meet the USSSA 1.15 BPF requirement. It just doesn't have the new stamp that is being required. This bat still has the old USSSA stamp on the barrel.

I am trying to decide between this bat or the Easton Convert XL:LT460XL. Which bat would be better for my 8 year old.
Asked by Eric on Mar 12, 2012
This depends on what kind of hitter you are talking about. The Easton Convert is a two piece bat that is great for contact hitters, while the Catalyst is a one piece design that is great for power hitters. The Catalyst is also a composite bat that will require a break-in, but it will perform better over time. The Easton Convert has an ally barrel and will be hot right out of the wrapper. Depending on what kind of hitter you are buying for, you can't really go wrong with either.

My 10 yr old son was given a hand me down 2009 LS Omaha 30/18 composite which he seems to hit well. It appears to be non-conforming now. Is the Catalyst the next closest conforming model or would you suggest something else?
Asked by Stew on Feb 26, 2012
The 2012 Louisville Slugger Omaha, model YB126 is the closest option and would be my recommendation. The Catalyst is a great bat too, it's just the 2012 Omaha is a closer match
