Review Summary

2012 Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000: SL12Z5 Senior League
4.2 based on 10 ratings. 10 user reviews.

New for 2012! The SL12Z5 features the USSSA 1.15 stamp and is legal for use in 2012! Louisville Slugger revolutionized adult baseball and softball with the release of the Z-1000. This season they bring that patented technology to the senior league field! The driving force behind the Z-1000 is S1 iD Technology that allows the barrel to flex to its maximum allowable performance level from SWING 1. Two inner discs are positioned inside the barrel at the sweetspot to stop the barrel from from flexing past the legal limit. For players, this means they really do get MAXIMUM performance allowable and a larger performing sweetspot. Louisville Slugger also introduces a new composite structure to the Z-1000 called LS-2X Composite. This new thinner high-strength and lightweight graphite fiber blend allows for reduced wall thickness, creating better performance while maintaining durability. The thinner fibers have allowed Louisville Slugger to use more layers in the barrel for added strength, but with an overall wall thickness that is thinner. The iST barrel to handle connection gives players maximum performance, even on inside hits. With a balanced swing weight, the Z-1000 is built for power and control. For added performance the Z-1000 has a Louisville Slugger end cap and a 31/32" tapered handle with a synthetic grip. Louisville Slugger: Intimidate at the Plate! The Z-1000 is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

Is the Z-1000 legal for Babe Ruth 13-15 years old?

Since this bat is a composite bat, it is not legal for a 13-15 year old Babe Ruth league. Only composite bats that are BBCOR certified are allowed in these leagues. Senior league bats will not have BBCOR certification; only adult -3 bats will. The Louisville Slugger Z-1000 model that is BBCOR certified and would be legal in this league can be found here: http://www.justbats.com/product/2012-louisville-slugger-tpx-z-1000-bbcor--bb12z-adult/13554/

Do you have Big Barrel bats for girls softball? Just received my recent order for my grandson, 2 days early, just in time for to nights game. Granddaughter is 10 in the 10 under group in Beaumont. Grandsons bat was $89. What size do you suggest?

Fastpitch softball bats will not come in big barrel models. Fastpitch softball bats cannont be bigger than 2 1/4 inches. It's hard to recommend a size without knowing her height and weight, but the Bat Coach at the top or our website is a great tool.

this bat the omen or the 52 cal. all 30/20 wich bat is better for me (12 yrs. 96lbs)

WOW, all three of these bats will be good choices. These bats have great pop and large sweet spots. This will be a personal preference between the three.

My son did very well last season with a Louisville H2. It won't be legal this year so we are trying to decide between an EXO2 and a Z1000. My son is not big so I was thinking the EXO2 might be better because it is 1 oz. lighter and might be better in terms of bat speed. Also, we live in Chicago so it is cold half the season. On the other hand, I hear the Z1000 has the latest technology and is more balanced. Any thoughts on which might be better for us? Thanks.

These bats will be very high end choices. The Z-1000 has a composite barrel and has tons of pop. The Exo has an alloy barrel, balanced feel and durable barrel. You can't go wrong with either bat.

14014

Do any of the Z-1000 have a break-in period?

Yes, we recommend 150-200 swings off the tee or soft toss. Also remember to rotate the bat about a quarter of an inch ever 15-20 swings to help fully break in the composite fibers throughout the barrel.

Is it a stiff handle or a flex?

This bat is going to have a stiff handle

13268

What is the differnce between SL12Z and SL12Z5?

The SL12Z is a -12...The SL12Z5 is a -8

I have a player who is trying to decide between the Combat B3 and the Louisville Slugger TPX Z-1000. He is 13 years old, 5'5, 120# and is a very good rotational/power hitter. I fully understand both are excellent bats but need your opinion on recommendations, and pros/cons of each bat.

The Z-1000 is going to have a little more flex than the B3. Both are one piece composite but the B3 will have a stiffer handle. If you need more flex than the Z-1000 is the way to go. It has excellent pop.

10571

in your opinion is worth lithium or this bat better

Both are great models, I personally like the feel of the Worth Lithium more than the Z-1000

What makes the drop 12 TPX Z-1000 lighter than the drop 8 TPX Z - 1000. Do they acheive this by making the barell of the bat smaller? In addition what size player would benefit from a drop 8 and a drop 12. My son is 10 years old and is 4 feet 10 inches tall, and weighs around 105 pounds. Which drop would you suggest for him? Is this bat better than the Combat B3 which is a drop 10. Or I was also considering the Louisville Slugger Exo drop 9.5.

There are actually different ways in which manufacturers can increase the weight of a bat without compromising barrel size or thickness. This is usually done by adding extra resin to the handle and/or barrel of the bat. A drop 12 will be more for your younger players around 7 or 8 years old (or 9 and 10 year olds of smaller stature). A drop 8 will be more for players around 10 - 12 years old. If your son is bigger and stronger than average for his age, I would recommend a drop 8 or drop 10 at the most. A lot of finding the right size bat comes down to what size bat he's currently using and how comfortable he is with it. Both the Z1000 and B3 are top of the line bats. The B3 sells better, but based on customer feedback, the jury is split between the two. Both perform great and have proven to be pretty durable. The Z1000 does have a little more of a balanced feel than the B3 though. Also, the B3 is available in a drop 8 (it will be the black bat, model B3SL1). I'm unaware of a drop 9.5 Exogrid, but there is a drop 8.5 model. The Exogrid is a great performing bat I would put on par with the B3 and Z1000 in terms of performance. I've heard a few customers say that the Exogrid has a little bit of an endloaded feel.

How does this bat compare to the exo grid 2 and the Marrucci? Would it be a step down or up from these 2 bats?

Personally, I think it is a step up. If you like all composite one piece bats. If you prefer 1 piece, then the Marucci would be the way to go.

8305

If my son gets a 30/22 how light would it feel? The Marucci 30/22 feels lighter than its weight. How would the this bat compare to it?

The SL12Z5 will be a balanced bat that is true to weight. It may feel just a little heavier than the Marucci though, but not much. Based on cutomer feedback, I would give the Marucci a leg up in terms of performance.

6640

How does this bat compare to the Omen?

Both bats will have very good POP. Both bats are 100% composite and will give the player maximum performance due to the large sweetspots. You can't go wrong picking either bat.

6281

Is this bat USSSA BPF rated?

Yes, if you look in the alternate pictures you will be able to see that USSSA thumbprint.
