2012 Rawlings 5150 VELO: SL51V Senior League

by Juice Man - Feb 13, 2012

Pros: 1st time purchasing a Rawlings bat. Bought this for my 12 yr old. He says the bat is very well balanced and has a stiff feel with lots of pop. If you have ever swung the Easton Rival orange and black bat it has more pop than that.

Cons: None

2012 Rawlings 5150 VELO: SL51V Senior League
3.384615 based on 13 ratings. 13 user reviews.

New for 2012! The SL51V features the USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp and is legal for play in 2012! Increase your swing VELOcity with the Rawlings 5150 VELO! The 5150 VELO features an incredibly lightweight design and thinner walls to help young players develop their swing speed and hit the ball further. If a player is having trouble getting a bat around, it will negatively affect their mechanics and ultimately not allow them to hit for power. That's where the VELO comes in. The VELO is made from Rawlings 5150 Alloy that features unmatched durability that provides 10x more strength than traditional alloys. This allows Rawlings to make the barrel walls much thinner to produce a lighter swing weight. But that's not all. Thinner walls also allow for increased barrel flex that results in some of the best trampoline effect of any alloy bat in the game. The precision manufacturing techniques used by Rawlings give players the maximum allowable performance by a youth baseball bat. Maximum allowable performance, increased swing speed, and thin walls will equate to one thing: MORE POWER AT THE PLATE! As with all of Rawlings' premium bats, the 5150 VELO was developed with the help of Sci-Fly Technology. Sci-Fly uses Doppler Radar to track ball flight characteristics and measure the launch angle, ball speed, distance, and spin rate from the point of contact. This information helps Rawlings create a bat with nothing less than optimal performance. Rawlings: Maximum Performance Where it Matters Most on the Field! The 5150 VELO features the USSSA 1.15 BPF Stamp and is approved for play in 2012. It is backed by a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. Free Shipping!

by Littel hitter - Mar 15, 2012

Pros: Good balance, lots of pop.

Cons: Dented 3rd time out under the 1st 5 in 5150 on a inside pitch. Rawlings warranty return is 3 weeks behind. As of today they do not have a status on the warranty. Very disappointed all around with Rawlings Bats. Replaced a 2011 5150 that we enjoyed very much but not legal any longer.

by murphdawg - Mar 20, 2012

Pros: I recently had a Worth Prodigy, and now it is in a triangular shape, but I bought this bat for my new 2012 travel ball season and I am at my best point yet. The ball flies off this thing. Rawlings made a great bat.

Cons: Nothing

Pros:

Cons: Bat dented with in 2 uses of this bat. Dealing with Rawlings warranty has been a nightmare. They keep telling us it's on backorder yet I can purchase it from many different sites. That doesn't make sense.

by kkelly8888 - Apr 03, 2012

Pros:

Cons: I purchase this bat in January and this is my second time being replaced due to denting. The first time I sent it back it took 4 weeks to get a new one which I didn’t understand because they were shipping out new ones all across the country. Now for the second one they are saying 2 weeks. Still Frustrating! I would not buy this bat!

Cons: Could not list any pros since my son did not get a chance to hit enough balls with it. Dented in two places during second BP session. Sent it in for warranty two weeks ago and they are telling another 2-3 weeks minimum.

Is the 30/20 stamped with BFI 1.15? And is there a difference between the youth and senior bats?

Yes. This bat does have the USSSA stamp. Youth bats have a 2 1/4" barrel and the senior league bats have 2 5/8" or 2 3/4" barrels. This bat has a 2 3/4" barrel.

14293

How will this bat compare to the Rival in performance (pop and swing ratio)? And will this bat dent easily?

This is going to be very similar in performance and construction. The Velo is designed to have a lower swing weight. We have not heard any feedback about these bats denting easier than any other models.

13903

HOW COME ONLY 2 SIZES AVAILABLE?

These are the only two sizes that we have in stock right now, this bat does come in other sizes. We will get them in shortly

13817

is this bat a BBCORE bat.

No, this is not BBCOR certified. BBCOR bats will only be available in a -3 length to weight ratio.

13340

What is the difference between the 5150 Alloy and the 5150 Velo? I am looking to buy my 11 year old a 30/20 -10. Is there any difference

The VELO is just a newer model of the 5150.

13221

why is there no 30" or 31" available?

We are currently out of stock in those sizes. We do have more on order, we are just waiting on the shipping info, so we know when to expect them.

11709

what is the difference between this bbcor and the one with grey writing?

The 5150 VELO features an incredibly lightweight design and thinner walls to help players increase their swing speed and hit the ball further. This bat is made of the same material the 5150 has and this bat will be just as durable.

11020

Is this bat usssa legal by the 2012 regulations. What are the new regulations? Where can i find a list of them

This bat is USSSA approved for 2012. Efffective January 1, 2012 big barrel bats (2 5/8 and 2 3/4 inch) 14U and below must have the new USSSA stamp on the taper or be a BBCOR bat. Big Barrel bats must be BBCOR certified in 15U and above. For 2012 and 2013 Small Barrel bats must have the new USSSA mark on the taper or have the old USSSA mark. All divisions allow wood bats. The filter on the left hand side of our website labeled "Shop for Approved by" will list all bats approved for USSSA.

10595

How is this 5150 different from the other 2012 5150 -10 2 3/4 barrel bat that is silver and red?

The VELO is just the newer model. They both are going to perform similar to each other.

10369

Is tis a big barrel and is 2 3/4 considered the biggest big barrel you have?

Yes, 2 3/4" is the biggest barrel made.

10340

Did they improve the paint?I know in the past the bat had issues with the paint chipping.

Manufactures always try to improve the bats every year. To my knowledge there hasn't been any issues with the Velo.

10266

How is this bat compared to the easton S-3?

Both bats will perform similar to each other. They both use their top of the line alloy. You can't go wrong with either bat.
