What is the big difference between a Rival and a Surge? Is this bat legal for Little League?

The Easton Rival XXL is a one-piece all alloy bat. The Easton Surge is a two-piece bat with a composite handle and an alloy barrel. The Easton Surge will have more flex than the Easton Rival.

The Cal Ripken division does not allow bats with barrels bigger than 2 1/4 inches in diameter. The BG11XL is a big barrel bat and would not be legal.

My son will be at the 15U USA Baseball Championships in Florida. A bat must be a BBCOR or a BESR non-composite bat. What are the best bats in this category?
Asked by John C on Apr 19, 2012
Some of our best selling BBCOR bats are any of Easton's Power Brigade line (S series or XL series), the Marucci Black, the 2012 DeMarini Voodoo, or the 2012 Louisville Slugger Omaha. Depending on what type of hitter your son is, all of these will be great bats to consider.

Asked by JERNIE42 on Apr 15, 2012
The Easton Rival XXL: BG11XL does have the USSSA stamp. If you look at the small pictures on this webpage you will be able to see the stamp etched into this bat.

Is it BBCOR?
Asked by jason on Apr 15, 2012
This bat is not BBCOR approved. Only adult -3 bats will carry that certification. If you are looking for the BBCOR approved model, it can be found here: http://www.justbats.com/product/easton-rival-bbcor--bg2-adult/13061/.

Is Easton Rival and DeMarini Vexxum certified for USSSA and BBCOR?
Asked by keith on Apr 15, 2012
No one bat will have the USSSA certification and be BBCOR approved. Only adult -3 bats will carry the BBCOR certification mark and senior league bats will never have that certification. The same goes for adult bats not having the USSSA stamp on them. There are models of the Rival and the Vexxum that have these certifications, but there will be two separate models for each certification.

my son is 8 and is in coach pitch now but will be in kid pitch next year, he is a good contact hitter is this the bat for him or will it be to big?
Asked by shane on Mar 28, 2012
For your average 8 year old, I would recommend a 28 or 29 inch bat with a weight between 16 and 19 ounces. Based on the sizes we have in stock for the BG11XL, I would say it's a little too big.
Tyler Expert · Mar 28, 2012
Is this bat legal for thirteen year old Babe Ruth?
Asked by jake on Mar 15, 2012
This bat would not be legal for use in a 13 year old Babe Ruth league. Rules for that league state the barrel diameter must not exceed 2 5/8 inches, and this one does. The Easton Rival model that would be legal for use in your league can be found here: http://www.justbats.com/product/easton-rival-xxl--bd11xl-senior-league/13071/
Jennifer Expert · Mar 15, 2012

Do you have to rotate the bat after every at bat or hit?
Asked by Logan on Feb 20, 2012
I always recommend doing that no matter what type of bat you're using. This will help ensure that not all the wear and tear occurs in the same side of the bat.

The bats we have in stock do have the stamps. They will be located right about the grip.

Does this bat qualify for middle school ball in Georgia
Asked by cooper smith on Jan 16, 2012
Since all schools have different rulings. My suggestion would be to check with your middle school coach. Because some middle schools must abide by high school rules, and if that is the case where you are, this bat will not be legal.
Linda Expert · Jan 16, 2012

is the usssa stamp put on in a way that it wont be worn off with hitting
Asked by heather on Jan 12, 2012
Yes, the rival has the stamp engraved on the bat
John Expert · Jan 12, 2012
There is no consistency to your answers for these 2 bats. Are they USSSA certified for 14U with the new stamp (no grandfathering) and are they alloy? Some of your responses are that they're composite. Other responses are that they carry an older stamp and cannot be used in 2013. Once and for all - what is the true story on this bat and the Demarini offered in this bat package?
Asked by Confused on Jan 12, 2012
First, as to the the question regarding the USSSA stamp. Unfortunately, many manufacturers already had their bats on the shelves, when the ruling for the marking was handed down, so some do not have the mark, but are legal which is why some with the old markings are being grandfathered in. Most of those have been dealt with already. The ones we have on our shelves DO have the marking, it is on the black part of the handle and kind of faint to see, but is definitely there. Second, as to what this bat is made of, this Rival is 100% alloy, there is NO composite materials in it at all. I hope that clarifies things for you.
Linda Expert · Jan 12, 2012
We've purchased this bat from you and my son wants to go to the batting cages. That means rubber coated baseballs instead of real ones. What are your recommendations as to whether or not to use this in the cages?
Asked by J on Jan 11, 2012
All alloy bats can handle those batting cage balls better than alloy. But even then, if he uses it in games, I would be cautious with it in the cages. Those rubber balls are compressed so much they are actually very hard on bats, expecially composite bats.
Linda Expert · Jan 11, 2012
The 2012 USSSA rules state that bats must "have the New USSSA Mark prominently and permanently displayed on their taper". While the mark on this bat is permanent it is not very "prominent". Is it still legal?
Asked by Guy on Jan 07, 2012
Yes, this bat is still legal
John Expert · Jan 08, 2012
Where is the 1.15 Stamp?
Asked by Scott on Jan 06, 2012
The stamp should close to the E on Easton on the taper. It will be engraved on the bat and is tough to see without good lighting.
KG Expert · Jan 06, 2012
As per several of the questions preceeding mine, there is NOT a USSA stamp on this bat. I purchased this unit based on your specs which emphasised that a stamp was present. I do not want to enter play and be challenged on it's specs.
Asked by Phil on Jan 06, 2012
When the ruling came down on the USSSA official stamp, the manufacturers already had many of their products already on the shelves with the previous requirements met. If the bat you have has the old stamp, which is more just wording, not a watermark stamp. They are being grandfathered in for 1 yr, in 2013 all bats will require the official stamp. With this bat particularly, the ones that do have the official stamp, the stamp was done on the black part of the bat which makes it hard to see. If you need more info, just give us a call and we can explain it in more detail.
Linda Expert · Jan 06, 2012
So the USSSA stamp makes it legal for USSSA tourney play at 12u... but is it legal for Pony play at 12u?
Asked by AJ on Dec 09, 2011
Pony League doesn't allow 2 3/4 inch barrels. This would only be allowed in USSSA.
Kara Expert · Dec 09, 2011
In comparing the Rival bats, what is the difference between "BD" and "BG" models
Asked by Brian on Dec 07, 2011

Asked by Easton fan on Dec 07, 2011
Everything I have been reading states that the barrel of the bat may not be bigger than 2 5/8". This is a 2 3/4" barrel bat and may not be approved. Double check with your league to verify.
KG Expert · Dec 07, 2011
Does this bat come in smaller sizes...like 27/17, etc??
Asked by Mike b on Dec 02, 2011
Yes. However, the Rival is being replaced by the S3 so we will not be getting anymore Rivals in stock.

about how many cuts does it take 2 dent?
Asked by reseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee on Nov 06, 2011
Unfortunately, there's not a set number of swings that determines the time in which a bat will dent. I've heard from customers who have used the Rival for well over 500 hits with no issues.

Looking for Easton BV15XL , 2 3/4 ,-9 . Similar to BG11xl. what are the differences between the 2 and will you carry BV15XL? We have one now but need to upgrade to USSSA. Thanks
Asked by Coach Dad on Nov 06, 2011
The BV15XL has been discontinued by Easton and replaced with the BG11XL. The only difference is the BG11XL features an upgraded alloy for better durability and performance. Other than that, both bats are the same.

Asked by brucerockss on Oct 19, 2011
This bat is not going to BBCOR approved. In order to be BBCOR approved a bat will have to be a -3 length to weight ratio and stamped BBCOR.

No. Only adult bats are required to meet the BBCOR certification. This is a youth big barrel (Senior League) bat that is not governed by the BBCOR standard.
John Expert · Oct 19, 2011
is this bat bbcor?

is the new rival xxl better than the older one?
Asked by Mr. Boom Bostick on Aug 05, 2011
It depends on who you aska and what their idea of "better" is. The new Rivals are made with a stronger alloy and a slightly longer barrel. The old Rivals may have been just a little better performing through. However, I've heard a lot of player say that they think both are on the same level in terms of performance.
