This is the Louisville Slugger Youth Maple wood bat. Louisville Slugger uses professional grade, hand-picked Maple to make this bat. The unique grain structure of this wood prevents the barrel from flaking. The Hard Maple is also kiln dried for optimum moisture content. The pro cupped end is ideal for controlling the weight for maximum bat speed and durability. Maple Wood bats are a stronger wood than the standard Northern White Ash models. This bat features a 2 ¼ inch barrel in diameter. This bat is great for practice or games. Many high schools and colleges are now taking batting practice with wood bats and now even the younger kids are doing this too. You can use this bat for practice instead of your high dollar metal bat. Practice with a wood bat has proven to be very beneficial. Pros: A very good bat for young kids. I bought it when i was ten and used it again at 13 and broke on the first swing. AWESOME FOR YOUNG PLAYERS!
Cons:

Pros: Excellent wood bat at a great price. 7 year old son swings it stronger than his Omaha LE. Good for training.
Cons: None.

Pros: Good weight distribution and pop. Bought a 28" for my 10-year-old to use in a wood bat tournament and he liked it so much he's talking about using it instead of his Easton Quantum in league play.
Cons: Dark finish gets marked up easily.

Pros: Nice little bat--took a beating and no damage.
Cons: none

Pros: Great bat to strengthen player's forearms and hands. Well balanced--7 yr hits practice with this and he feels he's swinging a guitar when switches to aluminum. When you make solid contact, has excellent pop. Price is great.
Cons: None at the moment.

Pros: Nice bat for training and building strength. Overall good training bat. Does have good pop.
Cons: I found this bat not to be as well balanced as the M9 Louisville Slugger, a little top heavy even with the cupped end.

Pros: This is a very good bat for young kids to learn how to hit with wood bats. Large sweet spot to help teach how to center the ball. Good Weight distribution
Cons: No notable issues thus far

Pros: held up well during tournament weight to length ratio good for 12-13 year olds
Cons: would be nice to have a bigger barrel if it did not add to much weight

Ask QuestionHow long do you think this bat will last for a 14 year old?
Asked by S on May 12, 2012
The Louisville Slugger Maple Wood (MLBHMYG) is a youth model. For that age we would suggest moving them into an a adult model. You could run into some durability issues using this model for a 14 year old.

What is the difference between this bat and the Louisville Slugger MLBM9YBH? Also, my 9 year old son swings a 29" -12 alloy, should I go with a 28" wood bat? He is 4ft 5in, 65 lbs.
Asked by njAndrew on Apr 16, 2012
The MLBM9YBH uses a higher grade maple than the MLBHMYG. Normally we would recommend a 29" bat based on his height and weight. However, wood bats are going to be much heavier so the 28" would be a better length for him.

Do you think this bat would be good for a 10 year old boy because I want to use something besides an aluminum bat?
Asked by Kristofer on Apr 06, 2012
I think so. This wood bat is a good bat for a younger player and is a good choice for his first wood bat.

I'm looking for a wood bat for my grandson. He's 7 years old and I was told he would need a 27 length bat. What would you suggest in the $25-$35 price range?
Asked by SW on Dec 17, 2011
I would suggest going with the mlbhmyg, maple bats are going to be a little more durable than ash wood bats
