Pros: Great pop and great sound right out of the box, no vibration. 8 y/o son loves it. Has the USSSA 2012 stamp!
Cons: After 10 balls hit had 2 dents, after 2 practices had several dents and a crack. Will be sending back for replacement hoping it was just an unlucky bat.

New for 2012! Until last season, Marucci was always known for their wood bats. Then the CAT 5 burst onto the scene and became one of the top aluminum bats on the market. This year, Marucci raises the stakes again with unbelievable new technology. Through endless field testing with the top players in America, Marucci discovered that vibration in the top hand is the most common complaint amongst amateur baseball players. Marucci has acquired a patented new anti-vibration technology that blows the competition away. They hired noted bat scientist Dr. Daniel A. Russell to do some lab testing against the top bats on the market. The results were shocking. He found that the vibration dampening rate on the CAT 5 is 5.6 times higher than the next closest competitor! For the player, this means that they can step up to the plate worry-free with one thing on their mind; blasting one over the fence! This is literally the smoothest swinging bat ever produced. Experience the difference of this one-piece bat made from the most responsive alloy in the industry. The CAT 5 Junior Big Barrel Bat is intended to be used by players aged 5-8 years old. Marucci: Game Tested. Player Approved. The Marucci CAT 5 carries a Full Twelve (12) Month Manufacturer's Warranty. The CAT 5 features the 1.15 USSSA stamp. Free Shipping!

Pros: Great weight distribution throughout bat. My kid loves the way it feels and swings like it. Great response off of the bat.
Cons: Bat dented in the first 15 swings during coach pitch. Hopefully it was a defective bat and will receive a nondefective one.
by stix11 - Oct 01, 2011
Pros: This bat has a lot of pop!
Cons: I just got this bat yesterday and it already dented.

Pros: Great Pop. Ball responds well. 3-4 kids have used this bat through 3 tournaments with no dents! Highly recommended.

Pros: My son has generally been one that needs a bigger drop than -10. His choice this time was the CAT5 27/17. He loves the feel of the barrel and has no lag in his swing because this bat is extremely well balanced. He has always been a good hitter, but his confidence is even better now, because of the "no sting" knob of the CAT5. The sound is explosive and the pop is great. NO DENTS to speak of after 200+ swings.
Cons: None

Cons: Non yet.

Pros: good pop,no vibration
Cons: dented after 10 hits
by Laurie - Apr 23, 2012
Pros: Worked great for 3 weeks..makes a great pop.
Cons: After only 3 weeks of use,the grip is separating from the bat, the cap is coming unscrewed from handle, now it is vibrating terribly! Marucci Customer service response is unacceptable. Once they receive their faulty bat back, they will fix and replace it. While we WAIT!!!! Missing several weeks of the season. Unacceptable! They should send the replacement bat and take my CC number and charge me for the new bat if they don't recive the faulty bat back within 2 weeks. To add insult to injury, they will not repair the grip, they will send a new one we will have to replace ourselves! Very disappointed! I would prefer a refund over this nonsense.

Ask QuestionMy son plays machine pitch (36 mph on the machine, 32mph across the plate) Does this qualify under the Coach pitch speeds? I am concerned about getting a bat with too thin of walls.
Asked by treysdad on Apr 27, 2012
Coach Pitch bats and Junior Big Barrel bats, like the Marucci CAT 5: MJBB@ Junior Big Barrel bat, are designed to be used against pitches under 40 mph. As long as the CAT 5 is used against pitches less than 40 mph and not used in temperatures less than 55 degrees, you should be fine.

Which bat gets better distance or pop? The Marucci MJBB2 or the Louisville Slugger Z-1000.
Asked by Jimmy on Jan 26, 2012
Most people have said that the Marucci has the most pop because of the alloy that is used. The MJBB2 has thinner walls and is meant for coach pitch leagues. The Z-1000's are better for player pitch leagues and are more durable.

Asked by TC on Jan 22, 2012

How does the Cat 5 Junior Big Barrel compair to the Marucci Black?
Asked by leigh on Dec 01, 2011
This bat is more of a coach pitch bat due to the thinner walls and will be meant for the soft core baseballs. The Black is more for player pitch leagues due to thicker walls inside the barrel.

Is this bat a balanced or an end loaded?
Asked by nicole on Oct 29, 2011
The Cat 5 MJBB2 is an evenly balanced bat. This bat is great for younger players due to the light weight and big barrel.

Is the Marcucci Cat 5: MJBB2 BBCOR certified?
Asked by kyles on Oct 16, 2011
This specific model (MJBB2) is not. This is a youth, Junior Big Barrel bat. Only Adult baseball bats are required to meet the new BBCOR standard. If you need an Adult BBCOR model, look at model MCB2.

Have you heard of others complaining of this bat denting early on?
Asked by JoJoTheTireMan on Sep 18, 2011
We have not, this bat is designed for coach pitch use and not kid pitch. We have heard the junior big barrels cracking or denting if people trying to use them in kid pitch. Junior big barrels will have thinner walls unlike the "senior league" models which are designed to hold up in kid pitch.
· Sep 19, 2011
I just purchased the Cat 5 junior big barrel. He currently plays 8u travel baseball. However, in less than a year he will age up. What bat would you recommend for kid pitch?
Asked by bambam on Sep 16, 2011
That would depend on the barrel size he will have to use and the size of bat that you are looking for. If you give us a call at 1-866-321-2287 we will be able to narrow down the choices for you.
· Sep 19, 2011
Does this bat have anything printed on it that says coach pitch? Anything that refers to model CP******?
Asked by Chris on Sep 12, 2011
No, this bat does not have "cp" or "coach pitch" anywhere on the bat. The name has changed to "junior big barrel" bats.
· Sep 13, 2011
Why can't the MJBB2 be made any bigger than 28in,18oz?
Asked by bigfan on Sep 11, 2011
This bat is made up to a 28/18 because it is a coach pitch bat. This bat is meant for players in coach pitch baseball only.
· Sep 12, 2011
Is this bat made to be used in kid pitch baseball or is it a coach pitch bat?
Asked by mboy on Sep 05, 2011
All junior big barrel bats are made for coach pitch only. A lot of leagues banned coach pitch bats in their league, so they changed the name of them to junior big barrel bats. These bats should only be used in coach pitch leagues as they will most likely crack used in any other league based on how thin junior big barrel bats are made.
