Review Summary

Rawlings Ash Wood Bat: 242J Youth
4.882353 based on 17 ratings. 17 user reviews.

Looking for the best value on a youth wood bat? Look no further. The Rawlings 242J youth wood bat is made from strong and durable Northern White Ash. This bat features the 242 youth profile that gives it a new, thinner 7/8 inch handle and a 2 1/4 inch barrel diameter. The 242J comes with a natural, flame tempered finish to give it a classic, yet trendy look. This bat features a balanced and lightweight design, despite the non-cupped end, which actually gives the 242J a little added durability. With an approximate -7 to -9 length to weight ratio, this is one of the lighter-swinging wood bats you'll find on fields today. This bat is great for practice or games, and the benefits of using wood at an early age have been well documented. Inexpensive wood bats make great practice bats so that players can save their high dollar metal bat from unnecessary wear and tear. Team discounts are also available for this product when placing a bulk order. Rawlings: The Mark of a Pro! This bat is approved for play in all major youth leagues. Free Shipping!

Rawlings Ash Wood Bat: 242J Youth

by Nick Cheney - Dec 02, 2012

Pros: It's a great bat. It's also got a very good kick to it and it came in under 48 hours. It is perfect weight. Just I would check other bats to make sure you get the right length for it that's how I got the perfect length. I hit 3 home runs in 1 game. You guy will love it. I recommend it for ages 11 and up. If you aren't in that range then you don't need a wooden bat.

Cons: None it it the best bat of all 10 of my bats.

Rawlings Ash Wood Bat: 242J Youth

by J Bylow - Sep 23, 2013

Pros: The kids on my 7/8 year old coach pitch team love the bat, they all want to swing it...mainly cause it makes them feel like Miguel Cabrera. I like it cause it makes my 7 year old son's swing stronger and faster. It's heavy, his swing is slower so the coaches pitch a little slower to the kids when they use this bat. His kids pitch 8U travel bat is the Easton S1. He picks up his S1 on the weekend 8U team and smashes the ball. I attribute that to swinging this heavier ash wood bat. It has plenty of pop, my son hit a line drive three hopper off the 200ft fence last week.

Cons: It's heavy for a 7 or 8 year old, at 40 mph kids pitch your child needs to be strong to get it around. At 40 mph and up, my son won't be successful with it until he's 9.

by Pete from PS - Sep 12, 2012

Pros: Great bat. I used this bat when I was 12 years old during my last season of little league play in 1980. I liked the feel of the bat so much I preferred it over the aluminum bats. I hit 16 homeruns that season and 2 in one game in all star play that summer. Great memories.
